Description
The Omnichord, which was first introduced in 1981, is an electronic musical instrument characterized by an automatic accompaniment function (autobass/chord) and a harp sensor. It enables arpeggios to be played by pressing a chord key and touching the harp sensor (strumplate). This simple way of playing allows songs to be accompanied without prior musical experience or knowledge of sheet music, using only the chord names of a song, commonly known as "tablature". The Omnichord, known for its unique electronic sounds reminiscent of the 1980s and the tactile nature of its music production, became particularly popular in Europe and America. Its portability also contributed to its success. The instrument has achieved cult status, appearing in music recordings, advertising photos and song and album titles. Although the name Omnichord was dropped after the OM-300 was introduced in 1996, the popularity of this unique instrument has stood the test of time.
