Sonic border crossings: The Smiles Cutouts as a mirror of modern dystopias

With Cutouts, The Smile - consisting of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner - are releasing their third studio album. The work was created in parallel to Wall of Eyes and offers ten new tracks that oscillate between experimental rock, art rock and math rock. Produced by Sam Petts-Davies and recorded in Oxford and Abbey Road Studios, the album is characterized by complex arrangements and haunting lyrics. Tracks such as "Foreign Spies", "Zero Sum" and "Tiptoe" show the band in top form, backed by the London Contemporary Orchestra. The album cover was designed by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke during the recording process.
