Description
Philip Glass: Pendulum – Chamber Music for Violin, Cello and Piano
Philip Glass’s Pendulum is a concentrated chamber work for violin, cello and piano. This edition includes the full score and instrumental parts, presenting the original piano-trio version of a work composed in 2010.
The title suggests a swinging motion and music that remains in constant movement. Repeating rhythmic and melodic patterns gradually shift and intensify, creating new layers of tension. The violin and cello are closely interwoven with the piano, producing a precise pulse, sustained energy and an atmospheric, highly expressive sound world.
Glass wrote Pendulum to mark the 90th anniversary of the American Civil Liberties Union. The work is well suited to concert programmes, chamber music recitals and contemporary ensemble projects looking for a modern piano trio with a distinctive minimalist character.
