Description
Eight Centuries of Music for Two Alto Recorders
The Alto Recorder Duet Book II brings together an exceptionally wide-ranging repertoire for two alto recorders. The pieces, selected, edited, and arranged by Eric Haas, span from the 12th century to the present day and offer a vivid experience of the development of polyphonic music.
The collection ranges from anonymous medieval works to music by Guillaume de Machaut, Francesco Landini, Orlando di Lasso, Michael Praetorius, and Orlando Gibbons, all the way to compositions by Telemann, Mozart, and Bartók. It also includes traditional melodies as well as contemporary pieces by Eric Haas, Samuel Gossner, John McLellan, and other composers.
Historical source references, explanations, and occasional transcriptions of lyrics complement the sheet music and provide interesting insights into the origins and character of the music. For works marked accordingly, one or both parts can also be played on the tenor recorder.
A versatile and extensive collection of duets for teaching, ensemble playing, and expanding the chamber music repertoire.
